The Ilion Mutt Dog Show
The Ilion Mutt Dog Show is a just-for-fun dog show to celebrate man's and woman's best friend, and do a little good while we're at it.
Held the third weekend of July during Ilion Days, the Ilion Mutt Dog Show doubles as a supply-drive and fundraiser for the Herkimer County Humane Society. Registration for the show each year is free but it is asked that a supply item for the Herkimer County Humane Society be brought to the show to be donated on behalf of each dog registered.
The first-time Ilion Mutt Dog Show, held in 2007, saw 25 dogs participate and succeeded in collecting two large boxes of supplies and $65 in cash donations for the humane society. And it has grown steadily from there.
We expect an even bigger and better event for 2012. This year's show is set for July 21 at 10 a.m. in Ilion's Central Plaza.
Dogs of every shape, size, age, breed and mix, are welcome to participate and compete for prizes in the categories of looks and talent. In addition to first, second and third place in these categories, other prizes are awarded for things such as "Most Energetic," "Most Adorable," "Most Well-Behaved," "Oldest Competitor," "Organizer's Choice," "Judge's Choice" and "Furthest Traveled." In addition the first 25 dogs registered receive free goody bags filled with toys, treats and more, courtesy of German Flatts Veterinary Clinic.
Registration for the 2011 show will be held for a half hour prior to the show, or you can pre-register by emailing iliondogshow@yahoo.com
